The climate in Komatsu City is comparatively mild. In winter (Dec-Feb), the monthly average temperature ranges from 7 - 10°C (high) to 0 - 3°C (low) and the temperature rarely drops below 0°C. The monthly average temperature in summer (Jun-Aug) ranges from 24 - 30°C (high) to 17 - 23°C (low).
Snow depth may reach 20 - 30 cm on the plains during wintertime, but it causes little inconvenience to business operation or everyday life because of the extensive snow-melting system of the city.
The frequency of earthquakes sensed in Ishikawa Prefecture is the lowest among the prefectures.

Komatsu City owes its present cultural and industrial properties significantly to Maeda Toshitsune (1593-1658), the 3rd Lord of the Kaga clan. Toshitsune retired and moved to Komatsu Castle in 1639 and died in 1658. With his profound knowledge of art crafts, tea ceremony, Noh play and the like, he invited many top-class experts in these fields from Kyoto to Komatsu. He also promoted and supported various industries such as silk textiles, Kutani pottery, roof tiles and tatami mats. |
